As this is my first game review I’m going to make it brief. Firstly, let’s talk about the name of the game “WET”, now I must say it is an unusual name to give a game but after I did a little research I realised it is actually an abbreviation for the CIA’s Wet Work missions. A wet work mission is basically an attempt to assassinate an enemy leader or conformist. Now that you know what it means you get a slight idea of what the game is about and missions you will have to accomplish.

The game is only out today but I have played the demo (Many, many times) and I must admit it is one of the most exhilarating games I have played in a long time. Graphic wise it is more cartoon style then realistic graphics, but it does suit the game perfectly. You play as Rubi Malone, a gun-for-hire, and you agree to help a wealthy man’s problem by finding and bringing back his wayward son, when it all looks like your in the clear it all turns pear shaped. It turns out its more complicated than you think because the man who hired you isn’t the man he appears to be and your mission now is to track him down and get revenge any way you can.

Of course, you don’t do this alone, you have the help of three of your dearest friends, two massive 6 shot magnums and a razor sharp katana strapped to your back. The game play is fast and deals with a lot of shooting, slashing and drinking. Yes I know what you thinking “Drinking?” Well, gradually your health will replenish but if you want a quick revive than you can take a swig of dark whiskey then throw the bottle in the air and blow it too pieces with your magnums. If like me your big fans of the Max Payne series and have become hooked on the amazing “Bullet Time” feature that made Max Payne the classic that it is today. However, in “WET” the bullet time is slightly different. The lovely people at Bethesda studios have made a feature that makes the game so much cooler and so much funnier to play now. As you aim at one person with the gun in your right hand with the analogue stick, the gun in your left hand automatically aims at the enemy closest to the enemy that you aimed at with your right hand. Confused? Yeah me too.

One of the main features of the game that makes it stand out as much more than a run and gun shoot–em up is “Rubi Vision” this is one of my favourite features of this game. “Rubi Vision” is when Rubi gets really pissed and everything changes to black and red and all enemies are black silhouettes with white shirts. The game turns into a mixture of Sin City and Kill Bill Vol.1 which gives the game that shadowy anime look but with the violence and gore from the gritty underground of Sin City. As you sprint from one end of the hall to the other blood splattering everywhere and rock music playing in the background just makes this game one of my most favourite games so far.

Aside from being a kick ass shoot-em up and an awesome Bullet time bonanza it also has a nice car surfing section where you battle enemies hanging out car windows on a busy motorway. Every now again you will be asked to press a button that makes you dodge an oncoming lorry or car or just simply slice the enemies’ hand of with your katana in mid-air. If you don’t get this right the first time you will have to sit through a rather disgusting clip of Rubi landing hard on the pavement then being trashed about by the momentum of the car. So my advice is, get it right the first time. J

All of the things I have mentioned so far are only part of the full game; remember I was only playing the demo. When the full game comes out you will expect more shooting, more slashing and definitely for Rubi Vision. So that’s it for my first review and I hope it helped you and I had a lot of fun doing it so please comment and I hope you buy this game for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on September 18. Thanks and Happy Gaming.
